Hello! nice to meet you.

I'm Rachael McLean, an award winning children’s book author and illustrator, living in a beautiful coastal town in Australia. I love writing stories and drawing magical pictures to bring them to life.

I’m the author and illustrator of My Best Friend is a Unicorn and its companion My Best Friend is Dragon, two magical tales of friendship and the power of make believe.

My illustrations can be found worldwide in over 120 beautiful kid's books, as well as on greeting cards, in magazines and on surface design.

My drawings spring to life from my trusty Wacom tablet, using a combination of Illustrator and Photoshop. Inspired by bright colours and all things whimsical, I love using bold colours and cheeky characters.

When I’m not drawing in my little studio with its beautiful mountain views, you can find me taking long walks on the beach with my pups and my husband.
